Natracare organic winged sanitary pads – regular, 14 pcs

Most sanitary pads are 90% plastic. This pad, by contrast, is made with an organic cotton top layer, an organically certified absorbent cellulose core and a plant-based waterproof layer. The cotton top layer provides good ventilation for the skin, while the cellulose core draws the blood away so that you keep a dry feeling.

It contains no rayon, latex, additives, fragrances or dyes, and is completely chlorine-free – which is exactly why many gynaecologists recommend it to women with sensitive skin. The wings hold it securely in place, and each pad is individually wrapped in biodegradable film, so it can be carried comfortably in a bag too.

Why is the core cellulose and not cotton? There are two reasons. First, because of its fibre structure, cotton is a poorer absorbent: 70% of its fibres are crystalline and only 30% amorphous, whereas cellulose pulp made from pine is 70% amorphous. Second, its carbon footprint is also more favourable: Natracare's soft fibre is made from softwood from fast-growing, sustainably managed Scandinavian forests.
