A gift from the wild rose

Rosehip is the false fruit of the dog rose (Rosa canina) – the deep red, oval berry picked in autumn after the first frosts, when it is softest and sweetest. In Hungary it grows along almost every ditch and forest edge, and few plants are as much a part of Hungarian cuisine and winter memories.

Our tea is made from 100% crushed rosehip flesh. It contains no flavorings, aromas or additives – just the berry itself.

What does it taste like?

Distinctly tart, fruity and slightly astringent, most reminiscent of the taste of dried rosehip jam. It gives a deep red-amber color and is well-rounded even without sweetening, though a spoonful of honey suits it well. If you like hibiscus, you'll probably love this too: the same pleasant tartness, just with a fruitier, less floral character.

What does it contain?

Rosehip contains vitamin C and is one of the richest natural sources in the plant world. It also contains carotenoids (lycopene, lutein, zeaxanthin), polyphenols and flavonoids, as well as pectin. These compounds give it its deep red color and antioxidant character.

85 g of crushed rosehip flesh, approx. 34 servings. 100% natural, free from additives.

All year round, at any time of day

Rosehip is caffeine-free, so you can drink it in the morning, afternoon and evening, and it's suitable for children too. In summer, chilled with ice cubes and a slice of lemon, it's particularly refreshing; in winter, hot with a spoonful of honey, it's the classic version: in Hungary it has been a favorite drink of the cold months for centuries, when fresh fruit was scarce.

Responsible consumption: rosehip tea is a fruit tea for enjoyment that fits well into a varied diet. It is not a medicine and does not replace a balanced diet or medical treatment. If you take medication regularly or are under long-term medical treatment, consult your doctor or pharmacist before regular consumption.

Suggested use:

Preparing the tea

  • For one cup (approx. 250 ml), use 1 heaped teaspoon (approx. 2–2.5 g) of crushed rosehip.
  • Pour hot water over it, cover and let it steep for 10–15 minutes.
  • Strain through a fine strainer or tea filter.
  • Enjoy hot or chilled, on its own or with a spoonful of honey.

Tips

  • Pay attention to straining. Rosehip seeds are covered with natural hairs that can cause a scratchy throat in sensitive people. Our tea is made from the fruit flesh, so this rarely happens, but using a fine strainer or paper tea filter makes sure.
  • If vitamin C matters to you: vitamin C is heat-sensitive. For a gentler preparation, try cold brewing: put the rosehip in cold water and leave it in the fridge for 6–8 hours, or even overnight. The resulting drink has a milder taste and retains more heat-sensitive compounds.
  • For a stronger flavor: steep it longer or use two teaspoons – rosehip doesn't turn bitter with longer steeping, it just becomes fuller.
  • Mix it with other teas: it pairs beautifully with hibiscus, apple or cinnamon – its tart base can handle a lot.
  • Storage: protected from light, tightly closed, in a cool, dry place. Vitamin C also breaks down when exposed to light and air, so it's best to use an opened pack within a few months.

Part of a varied, balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle. If you have a known sensitivity, checking the ingredients is recommended. During pregnancy, breastfeeding or while taking medication, it's worth consulting a doctor before regular consumption.

UKKO Rosehip Tea is a food product; its use does not replace necessary medical treatment! Not recommended in case of hypersensitivity to rosehip. Results may vary from person to person.
